THIEL Audio Products Company of Lexington, Kentucky is a privately-held, engineering-driven organization that performs research, design, and manufacturing of loudspeakers for the highest quality music and video sound reproduction in the home. Our products incorporate a variety of technological advancements in driver design, acoustical construction techniques, and crossover design. In 1977, THIEL began production of their first speaker, the model 01. In 1978 THIEL introduced the model 03 which pioneered complete time and phase accuracy in multi-driver dynamic speaker systems. THIEL now manufactures eleven models. Jim Thiel is a co-founder, co-owner, and product design engineer for THIEL. His interest in music began on the piano in early childhood and remains an important part of his life today. His involvement in audio can be traced to age 12 when he began to build and repair radios and other electronic gear. With an academic background in physics and mathematics, he established a business designing sound reinforcement equipment for studio and stage applications before founding THIEL.

The Thiel SW1 is the most advanced and versatile subwoofer system available. Its innovative design provides exceptionally deep, uniform, dynamic, and low distortion reproduction for extremely realistic bass. In addition, THIEL's patent-pending SmartSub(TM) technology enables the SW1 system to overcome the problems exhibited by conventional subwoofers--poor integration with the system's main speakers and altered response due to nearby walls--to deliver near-ideal performance with virtually any type of main loudspeaker and with virtually any room placement. The SW1 is the first intelligent subwoofer--simple, seamless, and smart. The woofer unit is a stand-alone subwoofer for reproducing the "point one" channel in a home theater system. It uses two very high performance, high output 10-inch drivers powered by a high efficiency, 1000 watt switching mode amplifier. The amplifier's circuitry includes the aspects of SmartSub technology that correct response problems caused by nearby walls and eliminates compression distortion normally caused by high power to the drivers. Size: 11" W x 20" D x 23.5" H, Weight: 108 pounds, Power: 1000 watts rms

The PowerPoint's combination of coaxial/coplanar drivers and wedge shaped enclosure allows the user greater control over the sound coverage in their room, enabling them to create the sound environment of their choice. The PowerPoint's unique wedge shape offers particularly great advantages for ceiling applications. PowerPoints and Power Planes can be used as front, center, or rear-channel speakers in home video and music systems. They can also be used alone or in pairs throughout the home in bedrooms, kitchens, and offices for outstanding sound everywhere.

Innovative Tweeter and Woofer Design The Thiel CS1.6 incorporates several new innovative design techniques that greatly improve performance in a small, two-way, floor-standing loudspeaker. The 36-inch tall CS1.6 delivers a much purer and more open upper midrange response coupled with a sweeter and smoother high frequency performance than conventional two-way models. The new CS1.6 also offers a very high 90 dB efficiency to work well with lower amounts of amplifier power. Much of the CS1.6's outstanding performance is the result of its new high output, high efficiency aluminum dome, 1-inch tweeter and the innovative woofer diaphragm/voice coil design. Both drivers incorporate short coil/long gap, copper stabilized motor systems to greatly reduce distortion, employ metal diaphragms for very uniform frequency response and clarity, and use long excursion motor systems for high output capability. The compact cabinet is built with a 2-inch thick front baffle and 1-inch thick cabinet walls for extreme rigidity to reduce unwanted vibration, improving clarity and spatial performance. The baffle's rounded edges reduce diffraction effects for improved tonal, spatial, and transient performance, and its sloped front correctly time aligns the tweeter with the woofer.

The new Thiel CS2.4 is the result of THIEL's 25 years of extensive experience in designing high performance loudspeakers for home music and video sound systems. Since 1977, THIEL's innovative engineering has led to significant sonic improvements in each new model, resulting in speakers with the most outstanding performance in their class. All-metal diaphragm drivers The Thiel CS2.4 is a three-way system incorporating all THIEL-designed and built metal diaphragm drivers--a 1-inch dome tweeter, 3.5-inch midrange driver, and 8-inch woofer--along with a 7.5 x 11-inch passive radiator. Metal diaphragms provide much higher stiffness which eliminates diaphragm resonances in the operating range for very clear and open reproduction. The CS2.4 drivers also use unusual short coil/long gap, copper-stabilized motor systems to dramatically reduce distortion. Coupled with the low resonance diaphragms and very high quality electrical network components, a very high level of clarity and tonal accuracy is achieved. Completely Time and Phase CoherentAs with all THIEL loudspeakers, the CS2.4 is completely time and phase coherent for much greater sonic realism. THIEL's Coherent Source (R) technology achieves the elimination of both time and phase distortions that cause alterations in the reproduced musical waveforms of most loudspeakers. Eliminating these distortions results in enhanced realism, clarity, transparency and immediacy as well as improved imaging and soundstaging in both the lateral and depth perspectives. Phase coherence in the CS2.4 is achieved by utilizing a sophisticated first-order electrical crossover system in conjunction with unusually wide bandwidth drivers. Time coherence is achieved by coincident tweeter/midrange driver mounting and the placement of the drivers on a baffle that is sloped at the correct angle to cause the sound energy from each to reach the listener at the same time.

One of the MCS1's most innovative design features is a newly developed coaxial tweeter/midrange driver where the two drivers' diaphragms share the same voice coil. This technique allows the elimination of the midrange/tweeter section of the electrical crossover network as the drivers' structure provides a mechanical crossover. The coaxial mounting results in perfect time coherence regardless of listener position, greatly improving imaging and transient fidelity. The MCS1 uses a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter and a 3.5-inch aluminum diaphragm midrange. A very low distortion short coil/long gap motor system greatly increases openness and clarity.
